777 is Australia’s mightiest marathon, raising funds for the prevention of child sexual assault. The event is remarkable in that it sees runners of all ages and abilities tackle 7 marathons in 7 states over 7 consecutive days.
Kicking off in Perth on 25th June, the event travels through Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney before finishing at the iconic Gold Coast Marathon on 1st Juy.
You can join 777 as either a National Runner or a State Runner, with National Runners completing all 7 marathons over the 7 days and State Runners completing just one marathon in their chosen state.
National Runners are the heroes of 777, travelling across the country together as a team with a full support crew backing them the entire way. A small number of National Runner spots still remain but are filling up quickly, with places on the National 777 Team strictly limited.
“It’s a unique opportunity and the best bit is you don’t have to be an athlete to be a part of the experience. You set your own distances each day and all the runners and 777 support team are so encouraging – it really is awe-inspiring to see these everyday people conquer such a huge challenge,” says Bravehearts Founder, Hetty Johnston.
The 777 attracts inspiring individuals who are keen for the physical challenge, but also care about the cause of protecting Australian children.
60-year-old Melbourne grandmother Gina Santaera, who ran all 7 marathons in 2017 says that it is important to raise awareness about the prevention of child sexual assault, as well as raise funds for vital support services like counselling for young survivors. “With awareness, education and the right support, I know that survivors can look forward to an amazing life. I am the proof!” she says.
777 National runners are connected to the cause for many reasons – some, like Gina, are survivors themselves, but others are connected simply because they are parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents or siblings of young children and they care about protecting Aussie kids.
parkrun is proud to partner with Bravehearts and support 777 in 2018 and hope to see a few parkrunners challenge themselves at one or all 7 of the events around the country.
