I wanted to share with everyone my journey into running.
I was aware of parkrun for many years but felt as a non-runner intimidated to try it out. It wasn’t until I heard about Medibank’s involvement and a launch near me that got me off the couch and on the track. I went to the launch at Redcliffe Qld in September 2017 and haven’t looked back.
parkrun is a free 5km timed run each Saturday morning with volunteers being the backbone. My local is North Lakes, where I have lived for over 10 years but it was only through volunteering at parkrun that I felt part of the community.
I went to a parkrun on New Years day and got a PB which was a great way to start the new year. My health goal for last year was to complete the 5kms without having to stop and walk or take a break. Last Saturday I achieved that and set a new PB for the run. I have shown my family that being part of parkrun is fun and they often all join me.
Last year we announced we would be bringing the production and supply of milestone t-shirts in-house, effectively taking control of a component of parkrun that has always proved to be difficult for third parties to manage.
