While for many of us the summer means more time to run, it has almost posed a bit of a problem in being too hot to run over recent weeks! Not something we usually report in the UK and Ireland, but we’re certainly finding it easier to go out first thing to beat the heat, or else save our runs for the cooler evenings. We’re not complaining of course…but it’s worth noting a few top tips to keep your cool while running in the heat!
Whether you’re heading to your local parkrun or getting ready for a holiday abroad, what you wear is key to keeping comfortable, protected and dry. Footwear is, as always, number one: in the summer you’re looking for running shoes made from breathable fabrics, ideally with mesh vents on the upper to boost airflow. Well-fitting trainers will help to prevent blisters, so now is a great time to take up the free gait analysis available at many Intersport stores across the country and find the best running shoe for you.
In addition to light, sweat-wicking layers, you may also want to consider headwear, hydration gear, sunglasses and other useful accessories to make sure you get the most out of your runs this summer.
