Christmas at parkrun

Christmas is traditionally an occasion when people come together to spend time with friends and family. Sadly, we know that too many people will spend the festive period alone this year.

parkrun has always been about bringing people together from all walks of life, and at this time of year we all have an opportunity to offer a hand of friendship to someone who might really benefit.

Since the very beginning, our local events have had the option to put on additional Christmas Day and New Year’s Day parkruns, and I’m proud to see that this tradition is continuing this year.

So if someone you know will be spending Christmas alone please consider inviting them to join you at a Christmas Day parkrun. It could be your neighbour, a friend from work, or a family member. It doesn’t matter if they do not participate; simply coming along for a chat and being part of our special parkrun community could really make their day.

There are 10 parkruns taking place on Christmas Day around New Zealand. We would love to see you at one of them. View the list here.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas,

Paul Sinton-Hewitt, CBE
parkrun Founder
