This past weekend saw a new landmark for parkrun around the world – the highest ever turnout over a single weekend with over 340,000 people taking part as either participants or volunteers in over 1650 events spread across 20 countries!
Following on from a busy New Year’s Day, New Year’s resolutions were clearly on display as runners, walkers and joggers flocked to get outside and join in their local events in diverse locations such as Russia, Malaysia, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, and of course Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. This time of year in the Nordics the weather can be pretty challenging, especially the further north and east we venture. We had a few cancellations this time, including all three Stockholm events for example. But elsewhere across the region parkrunners were out in force as these photos below show:

Japan will become parkrun’s 21st country when the first starts in Japan on 6th April. The first event is called Futakotamagawa parkrun and will be located in the western suburbs of Tokyo alongside the Tama river. It’s a one-lapper in a park, offering runners a scenic, flat parkrun in an attractive urban park environment….
