Andrew Van Heiningen receives ‘Unsung Hero’ award for services to parkrun

Andrew Van H

parkrun Ambassador for East Hertfordshire, Andrew Van Heiningen, has been presented with the ‘Unsung Hero’ award at the St Albans & District Sports Awards for services to parkrun.

Most recently, Andrew was integral in the establishment of Heartwood Forest parkrun. This activation was not without its challenges, but the event is proving to be a great success with an average of 140 runners and huge amounts of volunteer support every Saturday.

The awards ceremony took place in a theatre at a local school where the Lord Mayor, his assistant and various other dignitaries attended. All the presentations were made by a Saracens & England Rugby player, Sally Tuson, and closing remarks by Annie Brewster, former International 1500 metres runner and previous Mayor of St Albans, who in her closing comments singled out parkrun for its community minded spirit.
