As we hoover up the pine cones from the carpet and put our decorations away for another year, it’s good to reflect that this Christmas season has seen more people than ever come together to spend time with friends and family at parkrun.
In the UK alone, aside from the number of events that took place over the Christmas weekend, almost 200 parkruns took place on Christmas Day itself and it was a fantastic opportunity for people from all walks of life to run, support and be part of the incredible parkrun community.
We were thrilled to take part in a Christmas parkrun in Brighton and see for ourselves how inclusive and supportive it is. With hundreds of people taking part, lots of amazing volunteers, a sea of Santa hats and a massive dose of Christmas cheer, it really is quite extraordinary what can be achieved by putting on a simple, free, timed 5K in the community.
We’d like to take this with us into 2018 and encourage anyone new to parkrun to just go for it. Whether you want to get fit or enjoy the social side of parkrun, it can change your life. Bring along family and friends and see where it takes you!
In the meantime, if you have some Christmas cash to spend or fancy treating yourself to some smart new gear to kick-start your new year fitness, remember that you can claim 10% off at Intersport as part of our ongoing parkrun partnership price #PPP*. Tucked away in rural North Wales is Dolgellau parkrun, the home event of around 370 parkrunners. Co-Event Director Ashley Charlwood tells us more about this picturesque course in Snowdonia National Park that lies in the shadow of the highest peak in Wales. Dolgellau parkrun was set up for the community, by the community. We celebrated our…
I run at Oak Hill parkrun in north London. One of my fellow parkrunners is a guy called Maurice, who is in his eighties and runs the 5k every Saturday in a very reasonable time. A conversation with Maurice may have saved my life, and for the ‘mature’ men amongst us it is something worth…
