Octogenarian parkrunners unite in London

bushy_octo-group-shot-900x416

On Saturday 7 July, with the temperature nudging 85 degrees, 38 parkrunners aged 80 and over gathered at the birthplace of parkrun, Bushy Park in London. One of the participants, Richard Pitcairn-Knowles, tells us more:

Several regular local parkrunners were joined by many oldies from as far afield as Scotland, Wales, the West Country, Essex and Brighton.

Despite the heat and dust, the first two, Michael Coupe and Gerald Billis both beat the previous M80 record set almost 10 years ago. Joe Cleverley was first M85 and the remarkable Madge Bradwell, with 415 Bushy Parkruns completed, was first W85. The oldest finisher was Hugh Dinwoodie from Scotland running only his third parkrun.

It is never too late to start running. In the words of the late Charles Eugster, ‘Age is Just a Number’!

Our parkrun week in pictures, December 8th 2018

About 10% of the parkrun participants this past weekend were between ages 4-18. Many more under 4 could be spotted in strollers, tottering around finish lines and in the arms of those waiting for other family members to complete a parkrun course. These young parkrunners and parkrunners in training are a joy to see at…

A Reason to Run

With partial paralysis down the right side of her body since birth, and living with epilepsy since her father died 25 years ago, Australian parkrunner Nicole Gallina is no stranger to challenges.   As a child, her parents were firm about one thing – never allowing her to use her disability as a limitation. They…
