I volunteer at parkrun because – my son and granddaughter were running and I thought I would like to become involved.  Now I appreciate what a great asset this is to the community, open to all ages, shapes, sizes and ability and best of all free.

One thing I love about parkrun is – It is not just one thing, so many things make it special.  The support and encouragement that everyone gives each other.  I love to see families run together, often the children encouraging Mum or Dad to run faster.  Also, I have enjoyed watching the progress that so many runners have made, many finished huffing and puffing when they first started, then gradually over a period of time, as they have challenged themselves their improvement can be seen.  A large number have now gone on to do, 10 klms, half and full marathons.  If I didn’t have a wonky knee I like to think I would be one of them.

My most memorable parkrun moment was – it is hard to choose, there have been so many special moments, the dress up ones are always good fun, watching someone you know really wanting a BP and seeing them achieve it.  Doing my 70th volunteer on my 70th birthday and at the end to be surprised by my family, 4 of them having travelled 550 klms to get there (see photo).
