New Year’s Day is the only day we allow runners to register two runs.
The option for parkrunners to complete two parkruns on New Year’s Day originated in the UK long before parkrun Australia existed. Some of you have questioned why we don’t allow people to record three parkruns on NYD in locations where technically it is possible due to the way start times have been staggered.
The main reason is that it is a safety risk; Not to those runners who can easily get around in 30 minutes or less but to those who take 45-50 minutes, jump into their cars fatigued, and drive 10-15 minutes to the next location to just scrape in for the next start time. This could easily lead to an accident or worse.
We want parkrun to be relaxed and fun; not a mad rush to complete and then jump back into your car.
Whilst on a regular Saturday, in some areas running ‘The Double’ can be achieved, only one will be registered. Please ensure only the run you wish to have counted is scanned. In instances where two runs are scanned, the latter result will be removed.
It’s also a timely reminder while many people travel at this time of year to remind you to check the local event website for start times as these vary state to state and in some cases vary within the state.
