COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 17 November

It was wonderful to see events start back in Namibia at the weekend, the fifth parkrun territory to welcome back events since the Coronavirus pandemic paused parkrun across the world in March.

We were looking forward to reopening in South Australia this coming Saturday, but sadly new infections and a subsequent two week state-wide lockdown will mean our reopening will be delayed there by at least two more weeks. In more positive news we are still working towards the reopening of parkruns in Queensland on 28 November.

It’s particularly exciting to see how normal things are in places where we have been able to return. Events are operating well within the COVID-19 Framework, the Virtual Volunteer timing and scanning app is proving to be a huge success, and participation is pretty-much identical to pre-COVID-19 levels.

Perhaps most encouragingly, and despite the lengthy pause around the world, the growth of parkrun events in open countries continues, most notably in Japan where we will welcome Momoi Harappa Koen parkrun, Tokyo, this weekend and a further four events in Japan the Saturday after.

We do also understand the frustration and disappointment in communities where we are currently unable to return but we do see signs of improvement and reasons to be positive, and every week feels like another positive step forward.

We look forward to the day when all parkrun events around the world are back. Until then, through our digital communication channels and (not)parkrun we are here for you.

Thanks for your continued support.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 1 December

It was wonderful to see another record attendance last weekend, with 27,500 participants across 218 events, in 5 countries. And, of course, we would particularly like to welcome the 1,640 first timers who walked, jogged, ran or volunteered with us for the very first time.   Whilst it’s sometimes easy to get bogged down in…
