COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 23 February

COVID_FEB_WEEK_4

Yesterday (Monday 22 February) the UK Government published a roadmap for exiting lockdown over the coming months, detailing how and when restrictions will be eased if everything goes to plan.

We welcome this announcement and support the Government’s cautious framework for a return to normality. The roadmap provides us with an opportunity for junior and 5k events to return over the coming months – the detail of which we are now discussing internally.

Yesterday’s announcement applies to England only, and so we continue to work closely with our stakeholders in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales to understand the situation here over the coming months.

We appreciate there will no doubt be speculation regarding a return of parkrun events in the UK, and many people will have an idea on the likely or appropriate timing of events restarting. However we ask for patience whilst we have the conversations required to make and confirm the necessary decisions.

With this in mind, we will be publishing a detailed UK-specific position on Friday this week.

Elsewhere around the parkrun world there are no significant changes that directly impact our events. Last weekend 450 events took place across five territories, with more than 55,000 people taking part.

It does now feel like the end of an incredibly difficult year for the UK is in sight. Thank you for your ongoing trust and support. We are getting through this.

Put on a smile and get out there

My name is Kathryn and I am 50.   I’d heard of parkrun from my friend Lisa who parkruns at Cairns, but when I’d looked into it there was not one close to where I live in South Australia. Then in August 2018 another friend Sally posted on Facebook that she had participated in the…
