The news we have all been waiting for is here! We are excited to confirm that parkrun events in Victoria are permitted to reopen this weekend.
Following discussions with the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR), we received confirmation, from the DJPR, that parkrun events can reopen under our COVID-19 Framework.
How we work: Victoria | Coronavirus Victoria, was updated to include the following:
What does Phase D of the Roadmap mean for major events?
Organisers of events that are held in public places where the event organisers do not have exclusive control over the space – such as street parades or organised sports events on public roads – are not required to monitor the vaccination status of spectators and the public. However, event workers and patrons must be fully vaccinated to access areas the event organisers have control over – such as starting corrals and the finishers area at mass participation sporting events.
Whilst this could be interpreted in multiple ways, we have discussed it in detail with the DJPR who have specifically and clearly clarified to us that parkrun events are not required to check vaccination status of walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers, and nor is there a requirement that only fully vaccinated persons can attend.
This wonderful news means event teams will be promoting volunteering opportunities available this weekend, so if you can, check out your local parkruns website. Volunteering is open to anyone and is a great fun way to be involved in your local community. There are heaps of roles available. Check out these videos that explain the roles of Barcode Scanning, Tail Walking and Course Marshaling.
We wish you all a joyous return to parkrun this weekend.
