What is a parkrun special event?

There are two days in each year where parkrun events may stage extra events on days other than their normal day parkrun.

Since 25th December 2004, Bushy parkrun in the UK has held an event on Christmas Day and following this tradition, each country can nominate one special day per year on which they can stage events.

Canada day parkrun

As you may already know, the Dussault family was first introduced to parkrun (Ginninderra parkrun) three years ago, while posted in Canberra, Australia. From their first day and until their last day, they were always warmly welcomed by Ginninderra organizers, volunteers and participants and they felt right at home. They are so grateful for the friendships that they have made, while on their posting, which will last a lifetime!

For the Dussaults, Canada day parkrun started when they hosted a Canada Day (150th anniversary) parkrun at Ginninderra.

Everyone was so keen on helping make this special event a success! Participants were very happy to attend and proud to wear Canadian colours to celebrate this Canadian national event. Who would have thought that a Canada day parkrun would be held 16,098km/10,000 miles from Ottawa, Canada!

To this day, Ginninderra parkrun remembers how special this event was for them – here are some photos of the day!

This year marks the first Canada day celebration for the Orleans parkrun. Colours of reds were in vibrant display. Again, this event was a great success! Everyone who participated had a lot of fun! We had 42 participants and visitors from Denmark, UK and British Columbia.

It is so amazing and fascinating how the parkrun family brings together participants locally, nationally and from around the world, even on special events!

Orleans parkrun is very privileged to have a strong group of regular volunteers. The Orleans parkrun office wants to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for all the volunteering contributions to-date; making the Orleans parkrun a continued success, as well as a fun and enjoyable one for the east-end community of Ottawa every Saturday! and at special events, like Canada Day! Without volunteers, this community event would not be at all possible.

Looking forward to hosting many more special events at Orleans parkrun!

Comings and goings at parkrun

Based in a small Quebec town, Saint-Paulin parkrun has an even keener sense of community than many other parkruns. Event Director Annie tells us how pleased they are to see participants return from illness and injury after time away.   We’re lucky that our parkrun is a little different to most others. Ours is in a small town, which…
