Partial Re-opening in Canada

We are very excited to see the partial re-opening of parkruns in Canada this Saturday.  The process will be a slow one so while the vast majority of events remain closed, we expect more to gradually open week by week.

We always expected the re-opening process to be a far more complicated process than the closure was, and reality has validated that.  It’s been 16 months since events were put on pause so it’s natural that there would be challenges associated with starting events back up again with that length of time.

Last month we wrote to event teams to prepare everything for a potential re-opening.  At the time provinces were loosening social distancing restrictions and since then in many places they have loosened to a point where some of our events can return.

Canadian event teams have been submitting applications to landowners and the response times have been mixed.  Some have been able to acquire approval but understandably others haven’t heard back due to the influx of event applications that landowners have been getting.

While we work with event teams and their landowners, please bear with us as we try to re-open as many events as possible as the weeks go by.  Do check your event’s news pages and social media to confirm that the event will be open.

In the meantime, we hope you are able to get outdoors and enjoy the summer, and we’ll be back with you soon!

There’s no need to do the 5k at parkrun. Lois Rowland was a parkrun volunteer for more than ten years before eventually deciding to have a go at the 5k, following an ectopic pregnancy.   Having now completed 50 parkruns, she tells us her story.   My husband is a keen parkrunner and has been taking…
