On September 4 2021, the city of Gatineau joined the great parkrun family in Canada and around the world. Moussette parkrun is up and running. The city of Gatineau, the fourth largest city in the province of Quebec, is located north of the Ottawa River, within walking distance of downtown Ottawa.
Ironically, the Moussette parkrun is one parkrun away (5 km) from the Canadian Parliament. The community is therefore very happy to launch Saturday parkruns in Gatineau!
Events are held on the National Capital Commission Voyageurs Pathway (Route Verte # 1), a multi-purpose, fully paved trail that runs along the Ottawa River. The Voyageurs Pathway is a historic trail that follows the route taken many years ago by First Nations people, explorers, coureurs des bois and Jesuit missionaries. The trail offers a spectacular view of the Ottawa River.
Moussette Park is located in former city of Hull, within the Val-Tétreau District, right by the majestic Gatineau Park.
The start (and finish) line is right next to the Tétreau Community Center and the turnaround point, located next to the Château Cartier golf course. The pathway offers open and wooded spaces along the Ottawa River where participants will be able to run, jog or walk across three wooden bridges, pass under the Champlain Bridge and on their way back just before the finish line, will have a beautiful view of Moussette Park’s sandy beach, children’s play structures and the finish line with all its volunteers who will applaud your accomplishment.

Gatineau’s Moussette parkrun can count on a great team of volunteers to provide you the experience of a great community activity in this area of the city. Your hosts, Martyne Guindon and Dominique Kenney, welcome all residents from both sides of the river. You will also meet your co-hosts, Johanne and Steph Kenney, with whom they train and participate in several events and with whom they had their first parkrun experience, during the first anniversary of Kanata’s parkrun where the welcome was very warm and memorable (where cake and bubblies was handed out as a bonus – what a welcome). A few weeks later, they ran into Manon and Christian who had just started the parkrun in Orleans and where they had the opportunity to volunteer a few times. Inspired by this model, they starting thinking of launching a parkrun in Gatineau… and the Moussette parkrun was born.

Martyne and Dominique train regularly and participate in several races including half marathons: in Ottawa; the Canada Army Run; in Montreal ; in Quebec; etc. They are also certified fitness and karate instructors.
Johanne and Steph also train and participate in several events. Johanne, who is also a certified yoga instructor, has done many Ottawa races, such as the Ottawa Marathon, several triathlons and also practices skydiving. With Steph, she also ran the half Marathon, Canada Army Run, and many other races.
Our objectives are: to promote our beautiful region; enhance the local infrastructures already in place by implementing a family and community event where everyone can train or develop at their own pace; and, to allow the community to meet on a weekly basis in order to discover the benefits of exercise, to come out of isolation, to have great family experiences and to recharge their batteries.
Your hosts have managed to develop many friendships through sport, whether through running, fitness, karate, yoga and especially the parkrun community spirit that we have experienced here in Ottawa. This free weekly activity is a great opportunity to meet new people. We love the model and benefits from this event where all participants have the opportunity to run, jog or walk and progress at their own pace. Everyone has the choice to compete, train to improve, or simply participate. In one event, you will find a great mixture and one common goal, which is participation. In this event, everyone involved encourages each other, appreciates each other and most importantly, respects each other. “It really is the feeling of sharing an experience of well-being, of connection with our community, and with the rest of the world! “.
Welcome to Moussette parkrun!
