Enquiries for starting up new parkruns are regularly received by parkrun HQ from all over the world, and many of these come from countries where there are no existing events set-up.
And top of the list for recent enquiries has been the Netherlands. This active nation looks like a great place for parkrun, with plentiful parks and waterways providing opportunities for courses, together with a familiarity for parkrun from many people with connections with both the UK and South Africa where parkrun is so popular.
Already there are teams in a number of cities making plans to start up events – in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Gröningen, Nijmegen, Delft and Alkmaar. And of course, a lot of excitement about when the first events will arrive.
The aim is for the first events to be ready for launch in the spring of 2020. Currently you can follow progress on the parkrun Netherlands Facebook page.
