An invitation to Christmas Day parkrun

Traditionally, Christmas is a time when people come together to spend time with friends and family. Sadly, we know that too many people will spend the festive period alone this year.

parkrun has always been about community and bringing together people from all walks of life, and at this time of year, we all have an opportunity to offer a hand of friendship to someone who might really benefit from coming along to parkrun.

Since the very beginning of parkrun, our local events have had the option to put on additional Christmas Day and New Year’s Day events.

Last year, close to 90,000 different people around the world chose to spend Christmas morning walking, jogging, running or volunteering in their local community.

I’m proud and touched to see that this tradition is continuing this year. So, if someone you know will be spending Christmas alone please consider inviting them to join you at a Christmas Day parkrun. It could be your neighbour, a friend from work, or a family member.

As always, there is no pressure at all to participate; simply coming along for a chat and being part of our special parkrun community could really make their day, and for many people, it may be the only conversations they have.

There are a number of parkruns taking place on Christmas Day in Ireland. We would love to see you at one of them. You can view the list of Christmas Day parkruns here.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas,

Paul Sinton-Hewitt, CBE
parkrun Founder
