A look back at Sonia O’Sullivan’s 100th parkrun!

In the absence of parkrun during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are looking back at some of the memorable events Vhi attended throughout the years as parkrun’s partner.

This time three years ago at Cabinteely parkrun, Co Dublin, former World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist Sonia O’Sullivan completed her 100th parkrun. Vhi hosted a special event to mark the occasion and celebrate Sonia’s  achievement.

It was an incredible day that saw parkrunners of all ages and abilities kick start their weekend and join Sonia on her 100th parkrun. Ahead of the event, Sonia commented on how important parkrun is to her

“I’ve been a parkrunner for almost 13 years now and the events are a huge part of my weekly routine. The beauty of parkrun in partnership with Vhi is that they’re so welcoming and accessible and no matter how fit or unfit you may be on that particular Saturday morning, you’re cheered home and get a real physical and mental boost once you’ve completed the distance and caught up with friends.”

On the day, Vhi created a Relaxation Area in Cabinteely parkrun, where parkrunners could refuel after their 5k, enjoy some refreshments, and take part in a physiotherapist guided stretching routine. Check out parkrun Ireland’s social media account to see some images from this fun filled day!
