COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 1 June

COVID_JUNE_WEEK_1

It was fabulous to see 25 events return across South Africa last weekend, the seventh country to welcome back free, weekly, community events since lockdown began last March.

Unfortunately a temporary lockdown in Victoria, Australia meant that 97 events were cancelled there, but in total 663 events did take place around the world, with more than 57,000 participants, including more than 2,700 taking part for the very first time.

As mentioned last week, things are progressing pretty quickly in a number of locations and each week brings further clarity on the subject of when and where events may resume.

Although subject to possible changes to guidance, we expect that events across a number of countries will restart over the coming weeks as follows:

12 June – Poland
19 June – Denmark
20 June – Scotland (junior events begin to return)
26 June – England and Northern Ireland (tbc)
3 July – France, Scotland (tbc)

In some cases we are still awaiting confirmation to officially publish a restart date. As and when this is possible, we will provide further information in this weekly update, as well as across the relevant communication channels for each country.

There is no indication of when restrictions preventing the return of 5k parkrun in Wales will be lifted as yet but we continue to liaise with the relevant authorities there and will provide an update as soon as we have one.

Meanwhile, positive conversations continue with landowners across England, and with 70% of events having permission in place already, we are increasingly optimistic that 5k events will be able to restart as planned on 26 June.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Feeling so welcomed

After a big life move, Naomi Dawson found herself in a brand new country, knowing nobody.   Local parkruns helped her integrate into new communities, and make many long-lasting friendships along the way.   I wasn’t a runner, never had been. Then, in 2013, someone told me about parkrun.   I completed the Couch to 5k programme, after…
