COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 15 June

COVID_JUNE_WEEK_3

With the restart of 72 events in Poland, last weekend saw the most parkrun events take place globally since the pandemic began last March. Nearly 66,000 individuals participated at one of 768 events across eight countries.

Every event that restarts represents a huge step forward and should give all of us great reassurance and hope. We now have parkruns operating successfully in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, South Africa, USA, the Falkland Islands, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Poland.

And over the coming weeks, things are looking increasingly positive as we’re set to return to further communities around the world. In a number of cases we’re still awaiting confirmation to officially publish a restart date. As and when this is possible, we will provide further information in this weekly update, as well as across the relevant communication channels for each country.

Here is a list of confirmed restart dates for the next few weeks:

19 June - Denmark
20 June - Scotland (junior parkrun)
26 June - Northern Ireland
3 July - France
24 July - England
7 August - Sweden

As confirmed yesterday evening, and following the UK Government’s announcement of a delay to Step 4 until 19 July, 5k events in England will now restart on Saturday 24 July.

A huge amount of work has been done in recent weeks to ensure we have permission to return in England from the large majority of landowners. Unfortunately, and despite legal permission and approval from the government that parkrun is safe and allowed to restart, a significant number of these local permissions were contingent on the country moving into Step 4.

In both Scotland and Wales we are close to being able to schedule a reopening date, and possibly to align that with the reopening of events in England, however there remains a lack of clarity around the precise restrictions that apply to events such as parkrun. We will, of course, provide a further update as soon as we are able to confirm a restart here.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Feeling so welcomed

After a big life move, Naomi Dawson found herself in a brand new country, knowing nobody.   Local parkruns helped her integrate into new communities, and make many long-lasting friendships along the way.   I wasn’t a runner, never had been. Then, in 2013, someone told me about parkrun.   I completed the Couch to 5k programme, after…
