COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 22 June

#1whang-377

We took another big step forward last Saturday as 5k events returned in Denmark, the ninth country to see events restart post-COVID, plus we welcomed back junior parkrun events in Scotland.

In total nearly 60,000 people took part in 775 events around the world last weekend, including nearly 2,500 for the very first time.

This coming Saturday we look forward to 5k events returning in Northern Ireland, which  also means that children aged 11-14 will be able to cross the finish line once again (or continue to volunteer) at junior parkrun events in Northern Ireland from Sunday.

Since Tuesday 24 March 2020 we have written a weekly global update providing as much information as possible regarding the latest situation in the 22 countries in which we operate. From next week we’ll be making a few changes.

As parkrun returns in more and more countries this update naturally becomes less relevant for an increasing percentage of our community. Therefore from next Tuesday we will publish a status update on the news page of parkrun.com (rather than translated into seven different languages and published locally), which will primarily consist of a table outlining the current status of events in each territory. At the same time we will also stop emailing the update to event teams and ambassadors.

Where there is country-specific information to share, we will continue to do so across relevant national communication channels.

In the meantime, the following is a list of confirmed country-restart dates for the next few weeks:

26 June – Northern Ireland

3 July – France

24 July – England

7 August – Sweden

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Anne Hanley is delighted to be back at parkrun after her treatment and recovery from breast cancer. Here she tells us how that return to parkrun felt.   I started parkrunning because it was a way to get back into some regular exercise and it was something my husband and I could enjoy together. We…

parkrun New Zealand turns 10

We’re celebrating ten years of parkrunning in New Zealand! On May 5, 2012, 89 people, including volunteers participated at the very first event on the Lower Hutt riverbank.   Lian and Noel de Charmoy introduced parkrun to New Zealand after visiting their dear friend and parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt at Bushy Park in London. The…
