Event Profile – Hamilton Lake

Karina Ormsby is the Event Director of Hamilton Lake parkrun. Karina talks about this lovely spot in the Waikato.

I got involved with parkrun because I love to see people moving more, enjoying exercise and meeting lots of new people in our community.

Hamilton Lake is a beautiful, scenic, flat course around Lake Rotoroa in central Hamilton, which is a stunning lake and the course is a complete full lap around it.  We share this venue with Waka Ama, sail boats as well as the usual lake wild life and  home to a range of wonderful birdlife.

For parkrun tourists Hamilton Lake parkrun is in central Hamilton so easy to get to and the locals are always pleased to have tourists come along and share our beautiful location. Afterwards we go along to Fresca Cafe on Alison Street for our post parkrun coffee and catch up.

There was a very interesting and important story about one of our regular parkrunners which was published in the newsletter earlier this year, which can be read below.

Cheryl Laubscher shared her frightening ordeal with the Hamilton Lake parkrun, community.

Over the five and a half years that Hamilton Lake has been running it’s had a very positive impact on the local community. It has provided the community with a vibrant, friendly event that opens it’s arms to all levels of runners and walkers.  For many who start at Hamilton Lake parkrun it has become the start of their amazing health and fitness journeys.  Many have gone on, and continue to go on to doing marathons, ultra marathons, triathlons ALL SORTS of amazing events!

Some of our wonderful team of volunteers which all parkruns rely on!
