Many thanks to Bryan for his feedback and thanks to Wendy and Solitaire for their lovely poems – there’s lots of talent among our parkrunners!
HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY LOWER HUTT parkrun
On 5/5/2012 Lower Hutt had its first parkrun with a total of 84 runners and five volunteers. Five months later the run broke the 100 runner mark for the first time. It then waited till 2016 to break the 200 runner barrier and had 300 runners on two occasions in 2018. The weather must have been horrendous on the 22nd of June 2013 when only 20 runners and 11 volunteers were there; I wasn’t one of them.
I’m not too sure how I heard of parkrun, but I joined in the fun on the 13th of October 2012 for event #24 with 60 other runners. Over the years I have enjoyed seeing people running while pregnant, then pushing strollers and now running with their kids. I have enjoyed the silent rivalry I have with runners who I don’t know but chase them anyway. As the years fly by I find myself in a different batch of runners as more people join the Lower Hutt parkrun family, and I get slower.
Well done to people who have done so many parkruns. Out of the possible 372 I only have 152. That makes me sick, lame, lazy, busy or scared of the cold 60% of the time.
When looking at the results, I saw that a young runner ran a PB on her 325th run! I find this fantastic, yet she has time on her side and can still go quicker.
There are many names that I can’t put faces to so beware; I’ll be introducing myself - Bryan Botha, Lower Hutt
