As suggested in last week’s update, we are now confirming that all parkrun events across the world will be suspended throughout the month of May.
We continue to monitor the situation in all the countries in which we operate, with a particular focus on social distancing requirements. Whilst some countries are beginning to slowly implement processes for relaxing their specific restrictions, it is not yet clear how this might impact the delivery of parkrun events.
Importantly, we would also like to let you know that in all instances we will be taking a cautious approach to re-opening our events. And will only be doing so where not only do that country’s specific public health guidelines allow, but where we can be confident that our volunteer teams will not be placed under undue pressure.
Due to the unprecedented nature of this challenge there is no easy way to predict or forecast how or when we might be able to start the process of re-opening. However, we continue to consult with as wide a range of specialists as possible, and to work behind the scenes such that we are ready to go when appropriate.
I’m pleased to say we have written to every event team and ambassador around the world, inviting them to a conversation, and are making progress with speaking to them directly. We expect it will take several weeks to complete the calls, but early feedback is showing this to be an incredibly positive and welcome initiative.
Thank you for your continued support.
We will get through this, together.
