COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 27 April

COVID_APR_WEEK_5_NEWS

We have taken a big step forward today with our plans to reopen 5k events in England on Saturday 5 June, with an email sent this morning to all landowners, requesting permission to return.

Meanwhile, we continue to keep an eye on the situation in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales, and although there does seem to be positive progress in these countries, we still do not have the clarity needed to confirm when our events may be able to return.

In further positive news, the return of junior events continues apace across England, with 106 events taking place last Sunday seeing 8,000 children walking, jogging, or running, and 2,500 people volunteering. This weekend we are set to see a further 29 junior events restart, and are delighted to confirm that the first junior parkrun event in Wales is due to return on Sunday 9 May.

We are in talks with the Return to Sport group in Northern Ireland regarding a phased return of junior parkrun. We haven’t as yet agreed a date but are hopeful of returning in late May.

Outside of the UK, we are working towards restarting events in the USA from 22 May, as an easing of restrictions allows us the opportunity to return.

Every week we are seeing more and more signs of progress. Although for some of the parkrun community a return to normality might still feel like a long way off, we are getting closer.

Thanks for your continued support.

My stability in a crazy world

My first experience of parkrun was sitting in the car for several weeks just watching people come and go because I was so nervous. I thought they all looked so athletic, surely they would not want this turtle speed 50 minute-ish jogger to join them.   Eventually I summoned the courage to step up. How…

How parkrun helped me

When her local parkrun started up in Pegasus back in 2016, Sandra Durand thought it was just another interest for her husband to take up. John is a runner, he has been running for years, but she was never really interested in joining him.   Initially thinking she didn’t have the fitness or confidence to join in,…
