parkrun becomes a PEPPARE!

metro-carro-och-prd

This week we’re delighted to announce that we’ve become part of GEN-PEP’s network, an official PEPPARE.

GEN-PEP is a Swedish non-profit organisation initiated by the Crown Princess Couple that works to spread knowledge and engage both people and organisations in a joint effort to make it easier for children and young people to live a healthy life. The goal is to bring together companies, organizations and people in a joint effort to make it easier for children and young people to live a healthy life.

These are complicated issues, no doubt. But as everyone recognises, obesity, inactivity and the conditions and diseases that these contribute towards in the long term – diabetes, heart disease, strokes, depression and others – are storing up problems for the future. As they write bluntly, ‘our lifestyles are literally killing us and it’s time to take this problem seriously’.

We hope that parkrun can play a small role in this process, breaking down the barriers for participation in regular physical activity, by providing a regular, free timed run in friendly and welcoming atmosphere that everyone can be a part of. And of course, parkrun is something that families can do together which we feel is very important – children can run (or volunteer) with their parents at parkrun, and share the fun of being outside and exercising.

We’re delighted to be recognised by GEN-PEP as helping to contribute to their agenda, and look forward to contributing in a small way to the long-term goals that they have. And naturally we hope that one day Daniel and Victoria will join us for Haga parkrun (we’ve made it easy for them by hosting our first event there)!

If you want to read more about GEN-PEP you can find their website here and in English here.

Happy parkrunning!

We’re one team
