We’re delighted to announce that the founder of parkrun, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, will be coming to visit Sweden on Saturday May 13th and run at Haga parkrun. (Editors note: the TV cameras from SVT will also be joining us this Saturday too!)
It took vision and a lot of determination to make parkrun the success it is today from being a single event in a park with 13 runners back in 2004. Paul gets a huge amount of this credit for this achievement from sticking to some key principles that are critical to parkrun’s success; not least that parkrun has always remained free to everyone taking part, but also the fact that it is a weekly event, not less frequent, that you always run on a Saturday morning and that the distance that you run is a standard 5km.
We recently shared an excellent interview with Paul in social media which you can find here, where he speaks about the parkrun journey.
So come on down on May 13th to meet Paul and be part of the big parkrun family. We’d love to set a new attendance record on that weekend, so bring a friend and enjoy a parkrun in the spring sunshine with us!
This weekend will be a celebration of parkrun with our ‘special day’ events taking place in Denmark on 5th June and Sweden on 6th June, in addition to our regular parkrun events on Saturday 3rd June. In Denmark 6 of our 9 events will be hosting a special event on Monday 5th June, including…
