parkrun has spread to seven locations around Sweden and now plans are being developed for the next city in line – Linköping!
The plans are the brainchild of Lisa Ring, the marathon runner who has competed for Sweden at the World Championships in London in 2017.
After taking part in Huddinge parkrun with a friend last autumn, Lisa was immediately determined to bring parkrun to her home town of Linköping.
“I loved the social atmosphere of parkrun when I took part in Huddinge and I thought that this is something that really should be in a city like Linköping” says Lisa. “I love running and I want to bring that joy of running to others. parkrun seems to be a great way of doing this, and I love the way that it’s easy and accessible for everyone to take part”
Having run hundreds of kilometres around Linköping, Lisa had several ideas for a suitable route in Linköping, but in the end, the chosen route for parkrun was closer to home, in Vallaskogen, the forest directly outside her family house!
“One of the great things about running is to be out in beautiful nature, and Vallaskogen definitely falls in that category”.
What’s more, the start and finish for the route is from the beautiful Gamla Linköping Outdoor Museum, which has the look and feel of a small Swedish city a hundred or more years ago.
Runners will start with a small loop within the pedestrianised streets of Gamla Linköping before heading out to complete a longer loop of Vallaskogen before returning home to complete the 5km loop.
Once back to Gamla Linköping the plan is to head to the atmospheric Dahlbergs café for fika and to process the results.
So now the plans are in place and we want to invite YOU to be part of making this event a reality every week for the people of Linköping. We’re looking for people to join the team of volunteers to be part of getting things up and running. You’ll be supported by the parkrun team every step of the way, and remember, parkrun is all about building a community of people who organise the event together.
To help spread the word about Linköping parkrun we’ve set up a Facebook page – please go in and like and share. And we will be organising an information meeting for everyone who wants to know more about parkrun – this will be held on Thursday March 14th at 17.00 at Dahlbergs café in Gamla Linköping. We look forward to seeing you there.
Welcome everyone to Linköping parkrun – soon to start in 2019!
This Saturday, it’s 10 years since the first event in Denmark was held at Amager Fælled in May 2009. We share a few words with the man behind the launch of parkrun Denmark (the first parkrun territory outside of the UK), Jonathan Sydenham, and look back at the photos from the first event (thanks…
We want to highlight some of our fantastic volunteers from our events across the Nordics, so we are starting a little series of features where we want to give some thanks and love to our volunteer heroes from our parkruns. If you’re volunteer and want to say a little bit about parkrun, or if you…
