80+ year old Maija-Liisa is a regular volunteer and participant at Tampere parkrun in Finland. When her nephew Olli and his partner Ulla became involved in bringing parkrun to Tampere, she thought she was too old to get involved, but happily, with 79 parkruns to her name she has proved that this isn’t the case!
Here’s what Maija-Liisa has to say about parkrun:
“I like parkrun because it is regular and does not require any prior commitment or registration. I especially like the atmosphere where everyone supports everyone else. It welcomes fast runners as well as slow walkers.
It is suitable for anyone who thinks the 5 km is suitable. For anyone who wants to maintain their fitness, why not improve it, in an easy way.
I appreciate the social nature of this activity, working together to create meaningful things for myself and getting to know new people of different ages. This has also improved my basic fitness and maintained my language skills.”
