It was wonderful to see parkrun events take place in Australia, New Zealand, and the Falkland Islands last Saturday, as nearly 3,000 people walked, jogged, ran or volunteered across 29 locations. And in further positive news, this coming weekend, we will be delighted to welcome back all five events in Auckland, as restrictions are lifted.
We’re also looking forward to parkrun reopening in another 93 locations across the Australian state of Tasmania, and Poland, on 17 October, at which point there will be well over 100 live parkrun events around the world.
Before the month is out we’re also expecting to reopen all our Japanese events on 24 October, followed by Western Australia, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, on 31 October.
Importantly, whilst national and local restrictions permit us to return in both Guernsey and the Isle of Man, given both locations are easily accessible from the rest of the UK, we are mindful of the possible negative impact of significant parkrun tourism at this time. For this reason, the return in Guernsey and the Isle of Man will begin as a four-week pilot, where we will monitor the situation and respond accordingly if required.
Finally, whilst it continues to be a turbulent time in so many places, we are seeing encouraging signs. As we open up in more locations it’s wonderful to see the parkrun family getting back on its feet, as people come together once more to be active and social, in the great outdoors.
Thanks for your continued support
