COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 9 February

COVID_FEB_WEEK_2_NEWSLETTER

Although for many of us our last parkrun was almost a year ago, it’s been hugely uplifting to see so many people enjoying the parkrun experience in the 400+ locations where we have been able to return. Indeed, last weekend more than 56,000 people joined us at 421 events across five countries, including over 3,000 first timers.

Elsewhere, unfortunately, it remains a waiting game, with no significant changes to report this week. However, alongside supporting our open events, we continued to monitor situations everywhere we’re closed, and every day brings further cause for optimism as cases of COVID-19 fall and vaccines are rolled out.

This gives us hope that governments and public health officials will consider a path out of restrictions that prioritises opportunities to be active, outdoors, and together. We know that outdoor settings present a low risk of transmission of COVID-19, and given the urgent need to support and improve public health, we strongly believe that parkrun should be one of the first activities allowed back when restrictions are lifted.

We are getting through this, together.

Thanks for your continued support.
