COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 1 December

COVID_DEC_WEEK_1

It was wonderful to see another record attendance last weekend, with 27,500 participants across 218 events, in 5 countries. And, of course, we would particularly like to welcome the 1,640 first timers who walked, jogged, ran or volunteered with us for the very first time.

Whilst it’s sometimes easy to get bogged down in numbers and statistics, every week we welcome back yet more parkrun events is another significant step forward, and we’re delighted to confirm that this weekend another 37 events will return in South Australia.

For those who, like most parkrun staff, don’t currently have a local parkrun to attend, it can feel like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. But around the world, we are gradually getting back to normal, and wherever we’ve reopened so far it’s been truly heart-warming to see the community spirit return so powerfully.

Only two and a half months ago every parkrun event in the world was closed, and yet already we’re celebrating tens of thousands of people walking, jogging, running, and volunteering, every week, for free.

We are getting through this.

This Saturday, parkrun events in Victoria, Australia, will return, and next Saturday we are reopening another nine Russian events, of which four are completely new, taking us to 23 live events there.   Whilst these are relatively small steps, each step is a positive move forward. However, following on from last week’s update, we remain…
