parkrun responds to Government’s ‘Strategy for Sport’

Responding to the government’s unveiling of its new sports strategy, parkrun UK Managing Director Tom Williams said: “We are delighted to see volunteers being placed at the heart of the government’s new sports strategy. Volunteers are the cornerstone of parkrun and are fundamental to the long-term success of all grassroots activities – acknowledging their contribution is a great stride forward.

“Targeting children from the age of five is a significant step-change on the road to ensuring that physical activity becomes a habit throughout our lives. The development of the junior parkrun series, which has seen more than 43,000 four to 14-year-olds in total take part, has demonstrated that there is a real desire from parents and children to get outside and get active, together.”
