parkrun UK wins Participation Event of the Year at Sport Industry Awards

BT sports awards

parkrun UK has been awarded ‘Participation Event of the Year’ at the 2016 BT Sport Industry Awards in London.

The award recognises the significant growth of parkrun across the country over the past year, which has seen a substantial increase in the number of both 5k and 2k events, overall female registration passing 50% and an increased focus on disadvantaged and deprived communities.

Accepting the award, Chief Operating Officer Tom Williams said: “Winning such a prestigious award, judged by the sport industry, is a remarkable achievement. As we rapidly approach our one millionth UK participant and 500th event location, this is a wonderful endorsement of the efforts of parkrun volunteers in making their communities healthier and happier.

“We were extremely proud to accept this award on behalf of the entire parkrun community, including our small and extremely dedicated team of staff, our fantastic sponsors and supporters and the runners, joggers, walkers and volunteers who make parkrun happen every weekend.”
