parkrun profile: Markeaton juniors

Sally Prime is the current Event Director at Markeaton junior parkrun, which takes place in Markeaton Park, Derby, in the country of Derbyshire, and she tells us more about her home junior parkrun…

When the previous Event Director, who had originally set up our event stepped down I happily took on the role.

My son had been running for a year and my husband and I became regular volunteers. I love the buzz of junior parkrun…

I have arrived at the park, sometimes cold, sometimes wet, sometimes even hot and sticky and always leave feeling happy and invigorated, the good vibe you get from clapping the participants and chatting with like-minded people is great.

Set in mature Markeaton Park, we walk, jog and run alongside the boating lake an through lovely old trees, say hello to the dog walkers as you pass and then along to the Orangery Café but a drink afterwards

The origins of Markeaton Park can be traced back to the medieval period – we couldn’t pick just one of its many attractions!

You can come along and run with us and then spend the rest of your day at the park.

There is a great children’s park, including a huge pirate ship play area, swings and rope climbing frame plus a boating lake, tennis courts and a lovely café and craft village.

junior parkrun always has a positive effect on the local community, it encourages all types of people to join in.

We have a regulars, newbies and tourists plus a regular dose of adult parkrunners who are encouraging their children to be the next generation!
