Stay active with Running Down Dementia


At Alzheimer’s Research UK we stand with parkrunners at this difficult time. Just as parkrun’s mission of a healthier, happier planet remains as strong as ever during the ongoing Covid-19 situation we remain focused on our goal of making breakthroughs possible for people living with dementia.


Social distancing at this time is paramount, but it’s as important as ever to remain physically active and look after your mental wellbeing.


It’s hard not being able to attend your weekly parkrun, but at the time of writing, official advice is that if you are not unwell and self-isolating, you can still go out for a run as long as you stay a safe distance from others. Do ensure to check the latest government advice before you set out.


If you are looking for a way to stay motivated to run during this time, our Running Down Dementia challenge is a great way to push yourself to pull on your trainers and clock up the kilometres.


Challenge yourself to run, walk or jog as much as you can between 1 April and 31 August, and by getting sponsored to do it you can help us make strides towards a life-changing treatment for dementia.


This is the fifth year of our virtual running challenge with the campaign having raised over £1million for groundbreaking dementia research.


You can push for 100km, challenge yourself to 300km, or simply choose a distance target that suits you – all abilities are welcome! Sign up now.


If you raise £200 you can claim a free Alzheimer’s Research UK neckwarmer and if you raise £400 you’ll get one of the new design Running Down Dementia T-shirts.


You can also join our Running Down Dementia community on Facebook where supporters share training and fundraising tips and encourage each other to achieve their goals.


We know the support you get from your fellow parkrunners is a huge part of what makes parkrun so great. It’s tough not being able to meet up with your parkrun friends at the moment, so hopefully this group can help to fill the gap and help to you avoid feelings of loneliness and isolation.
