Restarting in England – weekly update 26 March

As part of our plans to restart parkrun and junior parkrun across England, we are publishing a UK-specific update every Friday to keep ambassadors, event teams, parkrun communities, and landowners informed on the progress we are making towards events restarting.

The situation remains extremely positive and we are delighted to have the support of so many landowners for the forthcoming return of junior parkrun events.

As we move towards the work to restart 5k events, it is really important that event teams do not contact their landowners directly as this could cause delays. We will support teams through the permissions process centrally, as we are with junior parkrun. Thank you.

junior parkrun

We are thrilled to share the news that we expect to see 52 junior events taking place on Sunday 11 April. To find out what’s happening locally please check the individual junior parkrun pages on our website and any associated social media accounts.

Many more junior events are also moving through the restart process, and we are now working on a rolling week-by-week basis. So for example, any junior parkrun events that have all necessary tasks completed and permission granted by Thursday 1 April will be able to start on Sunday 18 April.

We continue to work towards a return date with our junior parkrun events in Wales.

5k parkrun

We are still focused on the much anticipated return of our junior parkrun events but remain on track to restart 5k parkruns on Saturday 5 June.

This is a good time for Event Directors of 5k events to check in with their teams, and as a matter of urgency we would ask teams to complete the Landowner Information Form sent out earlier this week, to ensure that we are ready to move quickly when the time is right please.

Once again, please do not contact your landowners regarding permission, and please contact us if they contact you directly.

We will be in touch with teams regarding the restart process soon.

Whilst we don’t have any further clarity on when we can return in Scotland and Northern Ireland, or when 5k can return in Wales, we are continuing conversations with our stakeholders and hope to have more positive news to share with you all soon.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
