As part of our plans to restart parkrun and junior parkrun across England, we are publishing a UK-specific weekly update to keep ambassadors, event teams, parkrun communities, and landowners informed on the progress we are making towards events restarting.
With just nine days to go before the first 52 junior parkrun events return in England, we continue to be both humbled and amazed by the incredibly positive responses from parkrun communities, landowners, and other stakeholders.
So far, 90% of our 289 English junior parkrun teams have expressed a desire to return, and begun the process of reopening their events. Alongside the events scheduled to start on 11 April, we have another 28 due to return over the following weeks, and 89% of landowners who have so far responded to our requests have granted permission.
Going forward we will also be writing directly to every single returning junior event team, the week before they reopen, with a summary of the most relevant information to them at that time. Government guidance may change at short notice, particularly as we move between steps of the Roadmap, and as such we will do our best to keep teams as informed as possible.
We continue to work toward the return of junior events across the other home nations.
We are also focused on the much anticipated return of our 5k parkruns in England on Saturday 5 June, however we continue to ask that event teams do not contact their landowners regarding permission. This process will be managed centrally so that it is coordinated across the country and a consistent approach is applied.
Importantly, we do need any teams yet to complete the landowner information form we sent out last week to do so as a matter of urgency. This is to ensure that we are ready to move quickly when the time is right.
This is also a good time for event directors of 5k events to check in with their volunteer teams.
As the country gets back on its feet, grassroots sport returns to our parks and open spaces, and opportunities to be active increase, we’re excited to have parkrun events scheduled to take place very soon.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
