As we move through the reopening process for parkrun and junior parkrun, we’re publishing a UK-specific update every Friday to keep ambassadors, event teams, parkrun communities, and landowners informed on our progress.
It’s now only two weeks to go until 5k events restart in England.
An up-to-date list of 5k parkrun events with landowner permission can be found here, and all those events are now preparing to reopen on Saturday 24 July.
Earlier this week we wrote to the 536 event teams who have permission to return with further information on getting ready to restart and working through final preparations.
We’ve also written directly to all the events that do not currently have landowner permission, reassuring them that we are working hard to get their events open as soon as possible.
Following the return of 5k events on Saturday 26 June, parkrun is now fully back up and running in Northern Ireland, including junior parkrun where, with the restart of 5k events, 11-14 year olds are now welcome to walk, jog, run and volunteer together once more.
To check the status of your parkrun event please see local event webpages and social media.
We are still working on the assumption that Saturday 14 August is the most likely restart date for 5k events in Scotland. This is based on the recent announcement from the Scottish government that ‘beyond level 0’ is set to occur when all 40+ year olds in Scotland are fully vaccinated and likely to be 9 August.
We continue to work closely with Active Scotland to fully understand the recent announcements, and are progressing conversations with landowners and volunteer teams, such that when the time comes we are able to reopen at the first opportunity.
As things stand, since last week’s update, there have been no further developments regarding the reopening of our 5k events in Wales.
Please rest assured that we are working on this every day, with the support of Welsh Athletics, and hope that the details of Alert Level 1 will soon be published, and alongside that we will be able to target a reopening date.
junior parkrun is now open across all of the UK, and it was wonderful to see over 10,000 children participate at 228 events last Sunday, supported by more than 4,500 volunteers.
If you’d like to get involved please do visit local event pages on the website, or check social media.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
