As we move through the reopening process for parkrun and junior parkrun, we’re publishing a UK-specific update every Friday to keep ambassadors, event teams, parkrun communities, and landowners informed on our progress.
After 70 Saturdays without parkrun, tomorrow marks a significant step forward, as the majority of 5k events return in England.
We know how much the return of parkrun has been anticipated by so many. And we know just how much it is needed. Whilst we are obviously delighted that so many thousands more people will be able to enjoy the parkrun experience once again, we know the job isn’t quite done yet.
As an organisation, we won’t be satisfied until all events around the world restart. So, whilst it is right that we celebrate the return of parkrun in England, we are mindful of those who are still not able to participate at an event near them.
If you are walking, jogging, running, or volunteering tomorrow, please keep in mind that it’s been a long time since our teams delivered events, so it’s possible (and perfectly acceptable) that things might be a little rusty. Please be patient, and in the true spirit of parkrun, be kind to one another.
Most of all, if you do go to a parkrun tomorrow, enjoy it and have fun! Whether it’s your first or your 767th parkrun, it really is going to be quite an occasion.
Following the return of 5k events on Saturday 26 June, parkrun is now fully back up and running in Northern Ireland, including junior parkrun where, with the restart of 5k events, 11-14 year olds are now able to walk, jog, and run at the 2k events once more.
To check the status of your parkrun event please see local event webpages and social media.
Scotland and Wales
Following recent announcements from the Scottish and Welsh governments, we are working towards returning 5k events in both Scotland and Wales from Saturday 14 August.
We are in contact with landowners to confirm permission for events restarting on this date, and will continue to work closely with ambassadors and event teams in order to do our very best to make it happen.
junior parkrun is now open across all of the UK, and we remain committed to welcoming 11-14 year olds back to all of our junior events at the same time as 5k events return in each country.
From this Sunday, following the return of 5k events in England, 11-14 year olds will be able to walk, jog and run at junior events again. Likewise should 5k events restart in Scotland and Wales on Saturday 14 August, as we anticipate, 11-14 year olds will be able to walk, jog and run at junior events from Sunday 15 August.
It was fantastic to see over 10,000 children participate at 250 junior parkrun events across the UK last Sunday, supported by nearly 5,000 volunteers.
To check the status of your parkrun event and/or to get involved please do visit local event pages on the website, and associated social media.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
