On Saturday 7 May 2022 at Brueton parkrun, we celebrated what can only be the most amazing achievement in that Andy Lucas, who has been the Event Director since October 2013, reached one amazing milestone of volunteering 500 times.

His core team sneakily arranged celebrations which brought in 100 extra people who all wanted to join in on the celebrations and thank Andy for all his commitment, dedication and support over the last nine years.

Andy is at Brueton every week no matter what role he has on the rota. He is usually the first one in the park each week checking out the course, he completes the results most weeks, and spends many hours in the week organising, uploading social media posts and just checking everything is in place for the following week. He also volunteers at junior parkrun most Sundays.

Andy has empowered hundreds of volunteers over the years of all ages with all interests, he knows every single aspect of the park and a number of different routes to explore, and he knows every volunteer. He has empowered many parkrunners to set up other local parkruns, and has made many friends through parkrun all over the Midlands.

He is a Regional Ambassador, and the Liaison Officer with the Council to ensure Brueton parkrun runs within the council’s guidelines.

He has also volunteered across the country when on holiday or taken a rare day trip with family from the Midlands to Bushy and Norwich.

Andy has supported hundreds of young people to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Awards with many young people continuing once they have finished their awards.

Andy is highly respected at Brueton. The local running club chairman thanked Andy for everything he has done to support the local running clubs through parkrun. Another member of the volunteering team thanked Andy and said because of Andy, many young people within the community have gained confidence because of Andy’s support in enabling them to take on more and more roles.

Another core team member felt that Brueton wouldn’t be what it is today without Andy because he is a wonderful person who gives so much to parkrun.

Local parkrunners have sent messages saying how Andy is an inspiration, he makes everyone smile, his dedication to parkrun is amazing, and just hundreds of thanks from the Solihull running community.
