Jake and Ryan have been involved with their local junior parkrun since it started. They have both completed 100 junior parkruns and volunteered over 100 times too.
During the Covid-19 lockdowns they produced warm up videos with their Dad that were posted by the core team to keep their junior parkrun community’s spirits up and everyone active.
Sarah, the junior parkrun’s event director says of the brothers, “They are both a pleasure to know and we, at our junior parkrun, wanted them to know what inspirational young men they are and fantastic role models to all of our junior parkrun community.”
Here Jake and Ryan tell us what it is that they enjoy about junior parkrun:
This November will mark five years of us starting parkrun.
We are now 13 and 10 years old.
Apart from parkrunning, we both enjoy volunteering and our favourite role is doing the warm up which we do almost every week.
By doing the warm up we can also participate in the run, so we get the best of both worlds.
Now Jake is trying out all of the volunteering roles as he completes the volunteering element of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.
We also enjoy parkrun because it keeps us fit and healthy whilst having lots of fun. We a really like seeing all the people who attend the event each week and celebrating special birthdays. We love the Christmas and Halloween events that the run directors and volunteers organise.
Apart from parkrun, we do a number of other different activities including being members of an athletics club and a swimming club. Through these we have competed in track and field athletics events, cross country running events, triathlons and swimming competitions.
We would like to encourage more people to start junior parkrun and have as much fun doing it as we do. A number of our friends have come along and taken part with us. Some have continued and others haven’t but the important thing is to give it a try!
We are both working on getting quicker times at both junior parkrun and the 5k parkrun which we have started to do too.
We think parkrun is really good for your physical and mental wellbeing and makes you get up in the morning and go out and achieve something. Sometimes it might be a PB, other times it might just be to reach the end without stopping but it’s always nice to have the cheers and smiles from all the volunteers that make the parkrun happen for us every week.
Thank you parkrun!
Jake and Ryan

After a health scare, Scott Graham recognised he needed to make some lifestyle changes. Little did he realise that parkrun would not only help improve his health, but also provide some quality time with his 16-year-old daughter, Aimee. In January, I had a trigger to start being active after a health scare. It made me realise…
You can wear anything when you join in at parkrun – a suit, shorts, jeans or even fancy dress. We want everyone to enjoy parkrun and being comfortable in what you’re wearing is crucial. If you’re going to move a lot, walk, or run you might want to consider using a sports bra. We chatted…
