Brand new “audiozine” makes parkrun magazine accessible to even more people

parkrun magazine issue 4

Since June 2022, parkrun magazine has brought the welcoming, inclusive spirit of parkrun to the printed page twice a year. Now, a new audio version of the mag means even more people can enjoy its unique mix of features about getting active, tips about living a happier and healthier lifestyle, and stories from parkrunners and communities.

Each Saturday and Sunday parkrun brings people together to get active safely outside. Each parkrun event creates its own community, allowing participants to make social connections and providing an accessible way to be happier and healthier. Just like parkrun, the magazine is inclusive, representative, supportive and kind. It isn’t a “running magazine”. It’s also free – you can order a physical copy online.

We want to make parkrun magazine accessible to as many people as possible, so this September we’re thrilled to be releasing an audio version of the mag.

The new audiozine is perfect for listening to on the way to work, in quiet moments or while you’re out and about walking, jogging or running – basically, in any way that suits you. It costs nothing to listen to or to download.

Launching with issue one, which is ready to download now, each episode of the audiozine contains a selection of stories and features adapted from the print edition. We’ve broken down the magazine into a six-episode series, so you can listen in short bursts when you have free time, or you might prefer to “binge” and catch up with a whole magazine in one go. Of course, you can rewind and pause the audiozine, too – which could be really helpful if you’re cooking along with some of the recipes in series two and beyond! Issue two will be available in October.

In the first series, you’ll find stories about:

  • Why spending time in the forest is great for your mental health
  • Social prescribing: what is it and how is it changing the face of medical care?
  • How the data parkrun collects each week is safely stored as a force for good
  • Tips from an international athlete about making hills part of your activity routine, whatever your level of fitness
  • Self-care: what does it really mean?
  • Ideas and advice for anyone thinking about trying parkrun for the first time
  • And many more features, including stories from real parkrunners and their communities

Russ Jefferys, parkrun CEO, said:

“We’re so happy that even more people will now be able to enjoy parkrun magazine. You can take the audio version with you when you’re out walking, jogging or running. Or listening to the mag could be a great way to take some time for yourself, away from the sometimes relentless pace of modern life.”

You can find the audiozine here and on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music from 13 September 2023.

It made me realise…
