Clermont Waterfront parkrun, Florida, was happy to continue its tradition of holding a Thanksgiving day parkrun this year. It was a good excuse to get out of the house early, meet with friends, wish all well for the holiday, and to do a bit of exercising before the day’s feast! With no “Turkey Trot” at the location it is great to offer this to those that want to stay close to home, but also run.
The day began with a beautiful sunrise and a wonderful 58 degrees by the lake. 80 parkrunners showed up for the event, to include 14 first timers and an international visitor. Another international visitor also volunteered as a marshal. 12 runners obtained personal bests and one parkrunner reached the coveted 100 parkrun milestone.
parkruns in the USA always have the option of holding special (non-Saturday) runs on Thanksgiving Day and on New Years Day. On Jan. 1st, which falls on a Sunday this time, College Park plans to host a special Resolution parkrun, starting conveniently at 11 am.
Meanwhile, in downtown Washington, DC, parkrun will partner once again with the Mayor’s office to hold a special New Year’s Day 5 k fun run – not an “official” parkrun, but a great start to the year, and a big push from City Hall to jump start and sustain those New Year’s resolutions, and hopefully help us start the next parkrun in the city.
For any inspired parkrun tourist looking for a “triple crown” weekend, pick your favorite DC run on Saturday, join the Mayor’s run at 9 am and head straight over to College Park!
