On September 29th Fletcher’s Cove parkrun will co-host a special parkrun with the South African Embassy and the Comrades Marathon to celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth. The parkrun route follows the canal surveyed by George Washington.

Guest of honor at this event is Bruce Fordyce, legendary ultra-marathoner and 9-time winner of the 56-mile Comrades Marathon, the world’s largest ultra race.

Nowadays Bruce leads parkrun South Africa, where since 2011 around 600,000 individuals have walked and run 6 million parkruns. Bruce has been a lifelong advocate for inclusivity in sports.

Simply bring your barcode along for a 9am start as usual, but allow a little extra time for parking. Check out Fletcher’s Cove parkrun online and on social media for more information.
