In this time of ‘parkrun pause’, we have seen some very creative example of parkruns connecting with their community.

You may have seen #notaparkrun trending as events have been staging unconventional timed runs on Saturday mornings!

Events have been active and here is a round-up of some of the things American events have been up to:

Jamaica Pond missed out on their annual Boston-marathon weekend parkrun so to mark the occasion they heard from Paul Davies who told the story of how he marked out a 2.62 mile loop around his house and ran 10 laps.

Perrigo parkrun held a ‘virtual parkrun’ where they invited their community to run on their own and upload results.  parkrunners had until 8pm on a Saturday to complete their run before submitting them to the event. The first outing got 31 people active!

Fletchers Cove parkrun staged an ambitious yet successful transatlantic zoom call with Russian counterparts Druzhba parkrun.  Social distancing may keep us apart, but it brings out the creativity in some of us as we demonstrate we can keep socializing despite being thousands of km apart. Celebrations were exchanged as April 12th was Cosmonautics day in Russia.

The Anacostia parkrun community have been busy snapping shop and street signs spelling out their parkrun name.  A novel way to keep a run interesting, and to get a few odd looks we’re sure!

Lillie parkrun have been joining in the quiz themed fun by hosting their own Jeopardy style quiz!  Questions ranged from five different categories so general knowledge was useful, particularly about the Johnson Nature Preserve which was one of the key questions!

Pictured as the highlight of this blog is the a photo from the community behind Joe Creason parkrun where have been sharing their photos while doing their own runs.  This is a great reminder that Spring is here and we can’t wait to get there and enjoy the sights with friends.

parkrunners at College Park parkrun have been quoting Shakespeare to trail users to ask very important questions.  Great to have food for thought while out exercising, and a great topic to chat about on their virtual coffee meetings.

Happy Anniversary parkrun USA

This Saturday marks the 8th complete year of free, weekly, timed 5k events in the States.  On the 2nd June 2012, Livonia parkrun hosted 28 runners and walkers with 7 volunteers.  Eight years later, even though we are on pause, there is a lot to be grateful for right now.   2012, it was the year of the London…

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update: 2 June

In last week’s update we confirmed that all parkrun events across the world will remain closed until at least this calendar month. In some parkrun countries that message was entirely expected, as they are still relatively early in their efforts to overcome the challenge presented to them by COVID-19. However, some other parkrun countries are experiencing significant…
