The situation with regards to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to be somewhat turbulent in nearly every parkrun territory.
Whilst some of the parkrun family are experiencing a challenging time at the moment with increasing lockdown restrictions, others are beginning to see the green shoots of recovery.
In South Africa, the Government recently amended the guidance within Alert Level 1, increasing the limit on outdoor gatherings to 500 attendees, and mandating that people must maintain a distance of one-and-a-half metres from each other at all times. Despite this positive movement, as things currently stand, we are still not in a position to reopen here just yet. However, with over 200 weekly events and 1.2 million registered participants, we continue to monitor the situation in South Africa on a daily basis, and hope to be able to provide more positive news over the coming weeks and months.
Last weekend 516 events took place around the world, including the return of 42 events in Russia.
This coming Sunday we are very excited to welcome back 52 junior events in England, which we consider a major step towards reuniting our parkrun communities and getting back to delivering free, fun, outdoor physical activity across the country.
A further 28 junior parkrun events will restart on Sunday 18 April, with many more expected to return in the weeks that follow.
Wherever you are in the world and whatever the current situation, please know that the parkrun community is with you. Every week that passes is a step closer to getting parkrun events back everywhere.
Best wishes,
Tom
