We are pleased to announce that from Saturday 22 May 2021, individual parkrun events in the USA have the opportunity to open provided that local and state restrictions allow.
We have recently sent notice to all American parkruns that, provided their local and state restrictions allow, we will support the return of their event. This may mean your local parkrun will be reopening, or it may mean that you will have to wait a little longer.
We always knew that restarting parkrun events would be much harder than putting them on pause, as happened in March 2020. The USA posed a greater challenge than some other parkrun territories, due to the vast and differing laws state to state, and in many cases between counties and cities. We have now had the experience of reopening parkrun events across other parts of the world and can use this experience to confidently allow individual USA parkruns to restart.
Events are currently assessing whether it is legal and safe within their local restrictions to be able to put on their events. They will also be adopting our parkrun COVID-19 framework and making adjustments where necessary.
Not all American parkrun events will restart on Saturday 22 May, so we ask that you please give your event the space and patience to return at the right pace for them. Please check local event’s news pages and/or social media to confirm that the event is going ahead, and for further local information.
