A week has passed since we went out to landowners in England, requesting permission to restart 5k events on 5 June. We are conscious that our email arrived at what is a very busy time for many, with local elections taking place this week and the recent Bank Holiday weekend undoubtedly stretching resources at local authorities.
However, we have had a really positive initial response with 106 events having now received either full or partial permission to return, and a further 125 events with the permission request in process. As of this morning we are waiting to hear back from landowners for 333 events.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank landowners for taking the time to read through our permission request and for responding accordingly. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm with which many landowners have engaged with the return announcement on our social channels, and we look forward to sharing more of that over the coming days and weeks.
Unfortunately we still don’t have the clarity we need to confirm intended restart dates in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. We continue to engage in conversations across all three countries and hope to be able to provide more positive news here soon.
Another 28 junior events restarted in England on Sunday, taking the total to 134 junior events being held last weekend. In total we saw 659 events take place around the world last weekend with over 67,000 participants.
Meanwhile, whilst some of our territories are still waiting for the situation to improve, plans are progressing to restart events in the USA from 22 May. We are also keeping a close eye on the situation in South Africa and should be in a position to provide an update on the situation here next week. Across Europe, as the vaccine rollout picks up pace, we are paying close attention to the roadmaps being published which indicate how restrictions are planned to be eased in different countries.
Wherever you are in the world and whatever the current situation, please know that the parkrun community is with you.
Thanks for your continued support.
